Policies Regarding Data Retention and Disposal
Before submitting electronic media for disposal, please contact the official designated campus custodian(s) for the specific record type contained on the media to be disposed of. The official records/media custodian is responsible for ensuring that records of a given type are retained for the amount of time outlined by CSU and campus policies.
For assistance in finding the official records/media custodian for the records in question, review Cal Poly’s Record Retention and Disposition Standard and related schedules which provide direct contacts for subject matter experts who can answer specific questions regarding media retention policies for your media contents.
Cal Poly's Information Security website offers important information for employees who work with or have access to University Data, including Cal Poly’s Information Classification and Handling Standard, Disposition of Protected Data Standard, and information about retaining documents due to pending litigation.
